• Not because he's led the 3-4 and do you really want another 3 years of players getting used to a potential 4-3 switch with Spagnuolo?


• Not because he's led the Ravens in 4 years as D.C. to 5th, 1st, 6th and 2nd in total defense.


• Not because his players wanted him to be HC after Bill Billick was fired.


• Not because of Super Bowl XXXV.

But Because he did this:

and because his Father is Buddy Ryan - who helped the Jets win the SuperBowl and punched Kevin Gilbride in the head (in a game against..the Jets) where his apology was, "It's a difference in coaching philosophy in the heat of the battle." (Tell me you didn't want to punch Brian Schottenheimer many second halves this year...)
