Childhood obesity has been a big topic recently with children as young as 3 showing signs of inflammation that could lead to increased stroke and heart disease as adults. Which leads some to ask, "At what age is it too young to start sumo training?" Let's Move. The time has never been better for a sumo resurgence in America.
"It's really important to be concerned about childhood obesity and to even be concerned when they are quite young," said Asheley Skinner, a professor of pediatrics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. "We can't wait until they're adolescents or adults."
How dire is the situation? The American Sumo Association website has expired. Sumo wrestler Dan Kalbfeisch said, "As a child I never was exposed to sumo in America. The only thing I saw was the TV and films where they made fun of sumo as a joke — big fat guys slapping bellies."
If you have even a slightly overweight youngster you have to act fast. Contact USA SUMO immediately. America's sumo future is riding on it.
