ESPN's Disgusting Attempt to Make Gary Carter's Tragic Story Look like Their Exclusive

We drafted the piece below when we noticed that the Sports Media Watchdog had already addressed it so...go read their article. We'll put ours down there without editing.

SMW...ESPN New York Has Access?

Earlier in the coverage of Gary Carter's illness ESPN's Adam Rubin and Mike Mazzeo both took the snake oil approach to reporting what Kimmy had written on her very public blog. Both wrote: ESPNNewYork.com has been 'granted access' to it. Disgusting approach at making themselves look like they had some exclusive. Mazzeo even added 'on a private family website.'

Yesterday folks were saying he had gotten worse, 'as reported by the NYDN.' Really? Kimmy had updated her blog and these reports made it sound like they had interviewed her. It's the same online approach used often when stories say 'as reported by TMZ' or when the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta quotes a Mike Francesa interview of Rex Ryan, sans link and the words 'Mike Francesa.'

Besides the blogs almost to a man any MSM piece on Gary reports it as coming from Kimmy's site without linking to the information. Worst example is CBS which seems to never link to sources. Here Jason Keidel's tribute links back to another CBS page for the 'His condition has been described as “grave”' source -- which is simply the AP brief...which of course has no link to Kimmy's page...

Pretty sure Kimmy's not worrying about that stuff BUT her page does include a way to make a donation. Think the MSM made enough money on his illness to help out there?
