Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic of 1050 had a different victory.
Their show is just 20th overall, averaging 2.1% of the audience. But among men 25-54, the group 1050 sells to advertisers, Mike and Mike averaged 5.6%.
That’s almost double their 2.9% a year ago, and it puts them second in the city — trailing only all-sports rival WFAN (660 AM), where Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton averaged 6.4%.
What’s undoubtedly helped Mike and Mike, says 1050 program director David Roberts, is that the host of their 4-6 a.m. lead-in show on 1050, Jared Max, is averaging almost 9% of the young male audience.
So Mike & Mike have a 9% (of the young male audience) lead from Jared and they drop it to 5.6% and that's just great? They also trail B&C by 14% in the 'young male listeners that sports stations crave.' Sounds like Max and WFAN are winning.
The NYDN adds, "ESPN Radio took over 1050 nine years ago, and has yet to match well-established WFAN."
WFAN's Arbitron numbers for January 2011? 3.0 rating, 1,724,900 cume. ESPN NY numbers: 1.4, 1,149,300 -- 2012? WFAN in January: 3.4, 1,857,600 cume; ESPN NY sits at 1.3, 906,300
Do that math.
