'Street guy' Mike Francesa completely botches story of 'good friend' Jim Bell on sports media panel

Mike Francesa appeared on a panel for The Center for Communication titled Sports Media: Know the Score! Cencom described the discussion as "Sports Media is bigger than ever, as new digital outlets emerge to compete with the wide and growing array of TV and radio networks. If you have a passion for sports, excellent writing skills, and are a team player, our panel of sports media all-stars can help you create a game plan for winning the job you want."

What did Mike add to the conversation? He's a street guy who happens to be good friends with 2012 Olympics producer Jim Bell. Mike even relays a story of how Bell initially got to run the Today Show because he was tapped to carry then president of NBC Sports Dick Ebersol around during the Olympics from Barcelona because Dick had a broken leg.

True story?

Close, no cigar. Bell did come to the attention of Dick because of his size and his ability to carry injured NBC execs. Randy Falco was an executive with NBC in 1990 when he ruptured an Achilles tendon. It was Falco who got the Bell assist.

True story. But, you know, just be there. And if you cannot be there, make stuff up.

Bet Mike never thought he'd get caught lying at an event like that.
