Benito Santiago's Niece Nadia Diaz K'd 19 Little Leaguers

How did 6th grade Nadia Diaz strikeout 19 Southside American Little Leaguers (Syracuse, NY) who 'think they're all that?' That's right, one got by the catcher. That'll tend to happen to 11-year-olds catching someone tossing 60 mph...

In her final tune-up for the postseason last Saturday, Diaz struck out 19 batters as the Pirates defeated the Cubs 1-0 in the “majors” division championship game of the Southside American Little League. It was a six-inning contest, which means there was a maximum of 18 outs. The Cubs had two hits and a walk, and Diaz got all her outs on strikeouts. She picked up an extra strikeout after her catcher failed to catch a third strike, allowing a batter to reach first base without a throw.

“It wasn’t an easy lineup, either,” said her coach, Jose Diaz, who also happens to be her father. “In the championship game, we came to play.”
