Dopey English College Basketball Player-cum-Burglar had Sentencing Delayed Because 'The Olympics' Called

Loughborough University (London) basketball player Rodney Trebeluske was on a year long 'community order' (where one serves their sentence in the community instead of in prison) for stealing his landlord's television. At the time of the robbery, he told police that burglars had stolen the TV.

FF to last June. Trebeluske told officers responding to a burglary complaint at his dorm that he had confronted robbers there who proceeded to stab him. Turns out he cut himself on a window that he had broken while he committed the break in.

FF to this June (and July) -- Rodney had his court date rescheduled...because he was 'called up to the Olympic team.'

Yesterday, Judge Philip Head told Trebeluske: "You got your advocate to lie on your behalf to say you were playing in the Olympics as an excuse not to attend court. You are a barefaced liar. You lied to the police about the burglary and were reckless to the outcome which led to two people being arrested and spending nearly a day in custody."

He was sentenced to 16 months in jail.

But here's the kicker. (And notice to the compilers of the US no fly list...) His attorney, Olwen Davies, asked for a reduction in the sentence. The reason? "If he goes to prison he will not be able take up opportunities to pursue the sport in the USA."
