Later, trailing 4-0 in the 9th inning, Ichiro Suzuki and Raul Ibanez both homered in the ninth off Detroit Tiger Jose Valverde to tie it up for the Yanks.
Delmon Young placed a clutch RBI double into right field to give the Tigers the lead in the 12th inning as Nick Swisher found another way to hurt the team...in the field...'losing it in the lights.' And, perhaps it was the lack of eye black, Yankees announcer John Sterling also lost it in the lights - he thought it was Suzuki.
Oddly enough the 9th inning comeback, fueled by Ibanez and Suzuki, meant the Yanks were still playing in the 12th inning. And that's when Jeter fielded a ground ball awkwardly, resulting in a fractured ankle that will sideline him for the rest of the postseason.
Wow.
