Zack Wheeler Nailed a Dominican 51's Teammate and West Side Story Broke Out

Mets pitching prospect Zack Wheeler nailed a Dominican teammate on the Las Vegas 51's last Saturday during an intrasquad game after Dominican infielder Aderlin Rodriguez showboated following a home run.

Rodriguez apologized for his showy trot, the Daily News reported, though that didn’t stop Wheeler from following through on plunking the infielder’s teammate. Rodriguez was incensed, and the home plate ump had to put himself between the two players, according to the paper. (A-Rod is a big dude.)

Emotions spilled over into the clubhouse after the game, reportedly dividing the locker room.

“Some of the American guys and some of the Latin guys were circling and yelling at each other,” a source told the Daily News.

According to CBS NY, Mets vice president of player development and amateur scouting Paul DePodesta told the Daily News the issue is “done with.”

“From our perspective, we treated it as any parent might treat a dispute between two of their kids,” DePodesta said. “You don’t take sides. There is no such thing as sides. You just try to tell them what the right thing to do is, the responsible thing to do, and you go from there.”
