Above is the live feed from the DOT as Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic High's junior varsity football watches their bus go up in flames in the distance. Prep Rally Blog reports:
The fire wasn't put out easily or quickly. The blaze began just before the start of 5 p.m. rush hour, and police and firefighters struggled to get to the burning bus because of thick traffic.
Meanwhile, the Central Catholic football players stood by, huddled together as far to the right as they could get, all still wearing their lower pads as if they were going to get back on a bus any moment and head to a football game.
They never did get to the game, with a tweet from the official Central Catholic school account announcing that the game was cancelled less than two hours after the initial fire. That happened because a replacement bus which was to carry the team the rest of the way to Eugene never made it in time, apparently stuck in rush hour traffic itself.
All of the players are safe.
