Chris Russo looks to clock block Craig Carton's replacing Mike Francesa

The NY Post, with nowhere to turn, went to rarely heard Chris Russo for his thoughts on potential Mike Francesa replacements one year from his scheduled WFAN exit on 12/15/17.

“I’m assuming they are going to put two people in there,” said Russo. "It’s a big responsibility to put one guy in there for five hours. They would never move Boomer [Esiason] and [Craig] Carton, there’s no need to do that, they need the morning show, as well."

“I would think they would get two people in there and try to create some buzz. I don’t think they are going to move Evan [Roberts] and Joe [Benigno, the midday duo] in there, either. I think they are going to try and get two fresh voices. That’s what I would do, and Chernoff is a smart guy. He put together Boomer and Carton after [Don] Imus left, so I think he’ll do a good job of figuring this out.”

We told you 2 years ago that Carton is in play to replace Mike Francesa with Gregg Giannotti moving to mornings. Here is one lineup that has been discussed:

Mornings

Boomer Esiason
Gregg Giannotti

Mid days

Brandon Tierney
Ryan Ruocco

Afternoon

Craig Carton

The interesting thing is - Mike Francesa already wanted his current contract extended. It would be very easy to see Mike Francesa staying at WFAN for an additional 2 years and 2 months to ... February 2020.
