Mel Stottlemyre's kid calls on 'prayer warriors' as dad fights for his life in area hospital

Mel Stottlemyre's son Todd Stottlemyre via FB:

Calling all prayer warriors during this holiday season. My father is in the hospital fighting for his life. He has battled cancer for 16 years. He is the greatest champion that I have ever met. I'm praying hard for you Dad. I love you pops. Please lock arms with me and pray for all of our loved ones who are fighting.

The 5 time World Series champ was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2000. The cancer went into remission but returned in 2011. “Yeah, there was a point where I thought I’d beaten it,” Stottlemyre recalled with a sigh at the time. “I felt so good after a number of years that, even though there was no cure, I really thought I’d kicked its butt.”

“It’s been tough,” he admitted then, “because so much of my life is controlled by doctors, by the cancer. And the side effects of the treatment have been nasty, there’s no getting around it.

“But I’m determined that I can beat this thing. There are times when I have my doubts but it’s not going to get me down.”

We can all hope.
