We replied, 'Hmmmm, why you ask that?' and he returned with, "Well, there is rarely anything in there I haven't already seen on Twitter or wherever. And - did you see today's version?"
No - we hadn't. Like most we no longer read it. As a matter of fact, 2 weeks ago we asked, "How long until Sports Illustrated lays off more due to Extra Mustard's methods?"
Let's be honest - Bob's Blitz does a much better job of giving you buzzer beaters, bloopers, and other BS you don't see anywhere else (all done in under one hour's worth of daily work). We wrote at the time:
Sports Illustrated is not doing well. How badly? Muscleless Kate Upton covered yet another boring BS 'Swimsuit Edition' and no one gave two shits. How bad is SI.com? Alexa says...this bad:
Well...that will happen when Extra Mustard, created by Jimmy Traina (who would review 100+ blogs every single day, 2x per day...), is replaced and now, apparently, links only to USA TODAY and Bleacher Report for posts (Shocking - linking to 2 mainstream sites for your EXTRA site doesn't ring in the views).
And, as KD directed us to, Andy Gray wrote in yesterday's Hot Clicks:
A few notes on Hot Clicks
Starting today, P.M. Clicks is taking a little sabbatical so make sure you get all you can from the A.M. Clicks experience. We're also planning to give Hot Clicks a little facelift in the coming weeks so stay tuned for that. I'm always on the lookout for more LLODs, so if you know any women who want to be featured, let me know. And most importantly, I love your feedback so hit me up (email@example.com) and let me know what you like, what you hate and everything in between.
Let's take a quick look at yesterday morning's version. It links to:
- The Guardian
- Time (Shocking!)
- Time again
- Brobible's piece on Kristaps Porzingis and that model ... of 5 days ago!
- Huffington Post
- Golf Digest's Stina Sternberg
- Fucking Darren Rovell
- Awful Announcing
- The Sports Daily
- Rolling Stone
- FOX Sports
- Daily Mail
- The Big 10 Network
- Auburn Tigers
- Paulina Gretzky's BS Instagram
- That sexiest bloopers video with no link
- Friggin' Billy Eichner
- A Who Covered it Best: Don't Dream It's Over poll
What do we like about yesterday's version? Nothing. Linking to not one small to medium sized site instead going with People, Time, and the Huffington Post? As KD wrote, "There is rarely anything in there I haven't already seen on Twitter or wherever."
Extra Mustard...Where pop culture and humor meet sports -- as long as it comes from a Time owned property.
Funny - the Blitz hadn't been on SI in just about a month and then this. Go figure.
