We wrote New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and got a response within 24 hours. Here it is.
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for the Health Savings Act of 2016. Your opinion is very important to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you on this critical issue.
As you may know, the Health Savings Act of 2016 would change how health savings accounts and healthcare flexible spending accounts could be used. This bill would allow funds from health savings accounts to be used to pay for any prescription or over-the-counter medicine or drug. In addition, certain exercise equipment, membership at a fitness facility and nutritional and dietary supplements could be paid for using a health savings account. The legislation was referred to the Senate Finance Committee. Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind should this legislation be presented for a vote within the Committee.
Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of further assistance. You may also visit my website (http://menendez.senate.gov) to learn more about how I am standing up for New Jersey families in the United States Senate.
Note 2 things. That's a great office. 24 hour turnaround time is excellent. But...there's no stance indicated within. "Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind should this legislation be presented for a vote within the Committee." is not "Please be assured that I will drive to have the Committee present this legislation for a vote and I agree - your health money should be able to be utilized to purchase, say, Co-Enzyme Q10, which one might be taking to help with ocular migraines."
