Aaron Hernandez committed suicide in prison Wednesday morning. The Massachusetts Department of Correction released the following:
“Mr. Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population unit,” the statement said. “Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bedsheet that he attached to his cell window. Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items.”
He was always a pretty good blocker.
Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson, who had the former New England Patriots player in custody for more than 18 months, once said that he’s a master manipulator who would probably do fine in prison. Hodgson said Hernandez had an ability to compartmentalize things and lock out the negative.
“He doesn’t really look at it as jail,” Hodgson said. “It’s more like training camp.”
