Twice deported illegal alien (with past DUI offense) charged in death of Colts LB Edwin Jackson & friend

Twice deported illegal immigrant Manuel Orrego-Savala, 37, an illegal immigrant, was driving the car that fatally hit Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and driver Jeffrey Monroe early Sunday on Interstate 70, authorities said.

Orrego-Savala had a prior conviction for driving under the influence, and had been deported twice, according to officials.

"The defendant in this case allegedly re-entered the country illegally for the second time before he put the public safety of Indianapolis at risk and took the lives of two innocent men early Sunday morning," said Josh J. Minkler, a US attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.

Police said he gave them an alias at the scene -- Alex Cabrera Gonsales -- and attempted to flee on foot. Orrego-Savala was taken to the Marion County Jail, accused of driving without a license and on suspicion of intoxicated driving.

When Orrego-Savala appeared before the judge he was assisted by an interpreter. He questioned why he was in court, as he claimed he wasn't driving the car in the fatal crash that killed the two men, according to the court clerk.

"So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson. This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We must get the Dems to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!" Donald Trump tweeted before adding, "My prayers and best wishes are with the family of Edwin Jackson, a wonderful young man whose life was so senselessly taken. @Colts"

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay will pay for the funerals of Jackson and Monroe, a team spokesperson confirmed.
