WFAN’s post-Carton morning show ratings fall in the winter ratings book is bad

While many focused on the fact that ESPN's #8 ranked The Michael Kay Show averaged 4.4 percent of the radio audience in the key demographic of men 25-54 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. and WFAN’s #10 ranked Terrible Trio posted a 4.2 in the winter ratings book -- 660's Boomer & Gio continued to struggle mightily in the post Craig Carton era.

How bad? Almost as bad as Investors Bank thinking listeners are going to think that their crappy 13 month cd rate is not awful:

Winter 2017 - Boomer & Carton had a 7.3 = good for #1.
Winter 2018 - Boomer & Gio had a 5.1 = good for only 7th place.

And that 30% steady loss is before they started facing Bernie and Sid, Carton and Friends, et al. on a day to day basis.

Minutes after we reported last week that the tension between Boomer & Gio was palpable - WFAN was forced to hold an emergency 'morale' meeting for the morning show. We wrote:

WFAN is in trouble. And the longer it remains Boomer & Gio (and not Gio & Boomer) - the more trouble they're going to have.

Boomer & Carton was the #1 morning sports talk show in America for a decade because Craig ran the show and Boomer chimed in with news making sound bites. Now, despite Giannotti's breadth AND depth of knowledge...Esiason is running the show.

And not well.

We continued:

Al Dukes has no clue what to do. Neither does Mark Chernoff. (Jesus, the latter hired Bart Scott and Maggie Gray...the former produced Ron & Fez.) The superfluous Jerry Recco 20 minute updates that should be top of the hour 1 minute blurbs? Folks are tuning out in droves to Bernie and Sid, Len Berman, and, after 9am - in increasing numbers to the aforementioned Craig Carton.

Christ, Carton's fledgling network does a 100x better job with video than WFAN does. And that basically says it all. Well, that..and this.

This morning Boomer let listeners know they held a so called morale meeting yesterday. And all that other stuff.

Not good indeed.

Maybe Entercom shouldn't have let CC go so quickly.

Tomorrow's going to be rough.
