The West Windsor (NJ) Police Department's puppy rescue tale will bring a smile to your face

Chief Robert Garofalo recently took over the West Windsor NJ police department (PBA Local #271) from Joseph Pica (a great guy and good friend who had served 16 years). And? The supreme professionalism and dedication has continued.

This is a police department that posts things like 'Fireworks Warning Tonight - Freedom Festival. Keep Dogs Inside! Please Read Safety Tips.' Informative posts like this include when:

The Freedom Festival will have fireworks tonight. We always have pets running away because they are terrified. Please read these tips and please keep them inside and safe!! Lets also remember and plan early for 4th of July Fireworks as they can happen on multiple days from different areas including illegal fireworks.

Stay Safe!
Chief Garofalo

And it gets better. The dedication can be summed up in this story. Chief Garofalo writes about missing puppy Baxter.

After 7 days on the run, Baxter has been reunited safely!! Countless volunteers from the community, our police department and our amazing ACO spent their days and nights searching and chasing after little Baxter. Little did we know Baxter was secretly training for the puppy Olympics in sprint running because this dog could run.

After hope began to fade, Missing K9 Search & Rescue was brought in. Barb and Sue went to work and despite countless volunteers getting in the way, they were able to track and capture the Olympian safely. These ladies are amazing and true professionals.

I cannot thank all the residents and spotters for their hundreds of phone calls which kept everyone on Baxters trail. Without the kindness of so many, I don't think Baxter would be home safe.

Baxters family would like to thank everyone from the bottom of their hearts. They have been involved each and every day walking and putting up flyers everywhere. They never gave up hope and never stopped looking.

I am truly honored to be working with such great residents, volunteers, ACO, police officers and K9 Search and Rescue.

Thank you
Chief Robert Garofalo PhD(c)

How do you think that made owner Lorraine Baxter feel? She writes, "MY BOY, MY BABY, MY LOVE. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR LOVE OF OUR FURRY BABIES. A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO THE POLICE CHIEF AND HIS WONDERFUL WIFE GLORIA AND THEIR FRIENDS, THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH WORDS TO SAY HOW AMAZING YOU ARE. THE BEST WAY FOR ME TO SAY IT, MY ANGELS. GOD BLESS YOU ❤️’S"

Did you catch that? The chief...and his wife.

Wonderful police department that should be the example for all others.
