Craig Carton catches break after co-conspirator Michael Wright is sentenced to only 21 months

Michael Wright, 41, of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, faced sentencing of up to 20 years in prison yesterday after pleading to wire fraud last year in the case that involved Craig Carton. U.S. District judge Colleen McMahon had also just recently admonished the Government on a sentencing memo that recommended Wright receive 21 to 27 months in prison.

He received the lower end of that range - just 21 months.

Wright cried that he was blinded by Carton’s “glamorous lifestyle, his charisma, his celebrity.” “How did I not see things before it was too late,” he added. “It all seems so obvious now.”

Judge McMahon said he might have been, “blinded by Mr. Carton’s celebrity, but it wasn’t Mr. Carton’s celebrity that made you take money and pay off your mortgage.”

21 months bodes well for Mr. Carton who is facing 45 years when he's sentenced April 5th.
