Don't go crazy thinking the Beyond Meat Burger is all that healthy because it's not

Beyond Meat launched its IPO to great acclaim. But the whole 'healthy eating starts at home' and this is good for the home approach?

Yeah, not so much.

The Beyond Burger: pea protein isolate, expeller-pressed canola oil, refined coconut oil, water, yeast extract, maltodextrin, natural flavors, gum arabic, sunflower oil, salt, succinic acid, acetic acid, non-GMO modified food starch, cellulose from bamboo, methylcellulose, potato starch, beet juice extract (for color), ascorbic acid (to maintain color), annatto extract (for color), citrus fruit extract (to maintain quality), vegetable glycerin.

A protein isolate undergoes a lot of separating leaving you with components of the original source.

Canola oil? Can destroy your body and mind.

Coconut oil? The MCTs in coconut oil are predominately Lauric acid (C12) which is not metabolized like the MCTs Caprylic (C8) and Capric (C10) acids. Throw in refined v virgin? Meh.

Yeast extract? Possible brain neurotoxin.

Non-GMO modified food starch? Sneaky name for hidden MSG...another possible neurotoxin.

Maltodextrin? Dr. Axe isn't a fan.

But you go enjoy that healthy burger.
