Does your 2009-2013 Toyota rattle when started cold?

Does your 2009-2013 Toyota rattle when started? Camry, Rav4, Highlander, Sienna or Venza - a brief, half second, rattle / engine knock during a cold start. Did you know that Toyota issued a Service Bulletin on the problem? Several actually. The last one, T-SB-0041-13, came out 3/15/2013. Toyota writes, "Immediately following a cold soak startup, some 2009 – 2013 model year vehicles equipped with the 1AR-FE and 2AR-FE engines may exhibit a brief knock/rattle noise from the engine compartment for approximately one second." The problem very well may be your Camshaft Timing Gear Assembly.

And Toyota covered the issue under your 60,000 / 6 year warranty. Which is a nice touch for a, say, 2009 RAV4 that may have had the problem since day one but you didn't note it because the stupid plastic cover over the engine rattles as does the front end as does the back sun visor, etc.

We had this problem with a 2011 RAV4 with 90K on the clock. We reached out to the Toyota Customer Service Center TSR requesting a warranty enhancement (Toyota pays for the repair) and were declined.

Remember when Toyota stood for long lasting cars? T-SB-0041-13 should be a voluntary Toyota recall & not just a SB...because this stinks of an upcoming class action lawsuit.
