North Dakota’s Ben Blood Nails Opponent...in Handshake Line [Video]

GRAND FORKS, ND -- This is why Billy Smith never shook hands. This is why North Dakota’s 6'4", 226 pounder Ben Blood should never play another game for the UND Fighting Sioux. A hit during the handshake line following Minnesota's 6-2 thrashing at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Fight on the ice and you have everyone's respect. Not on the line, with a sucker punch no less.

Can't recall this ever happening before. Anyone?

"We didn't have it tonight, and it's a tough thing to take, but that's the simple truth," said UND coach Dave Hakstol. "We didn't play with the speed and tenacity that we need to."

Except after the game, coach.

Agree he should be done. This is college and playing is a privilege. That cannot be tolerated. Ever.

Never play another game? Really? Hate to break it to you but this is nothing new in college hockey and certainly nothing new in the UND-Minnesota rivalry. If you can't recall this ever happening before, then you haven't been watching hockey for very long. Take a look at this video. Nearly the same incident, involving the same teams. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og1LqrLcAIs

But the clown Hansen who came off the bench at teh end of the game and slashed Blood in the back of the legs is a-ok?

I have to agree. You must be a Gophers fan and not watch much hockey at all. A player comes off the bench and slashes a player from behind and that is completely fine. But, Blood levels him from the front and he should be kicked out of college hockey? You should try checking facts before your post this. You reap what you sow and Minnesota deserves anything that comes at them.
Since you seemed to have missed it, check out the 10-second mark of this clip:

Have you ever played hockey? It's an emotional game, and sometimes those emotions get the best of you. I'm sure he will learn from this one. Not play another game? He shouldn't miss more than one (if that).

Yeah, I've seen it before. Finley from the Sioux tried the same thing with Blake Wheeler from the Gophers about 3 years ago. Class act, those Sioux...

Don't worry... Ben Blood will never play another game as a Fighting Sioux, considering the Sioux nickname was retired two weeks ago.

Give someone a blog and it's a chance to post whatever they want without having to do any research. Or apparently even watch all of the video they post, since you completely missed the slash... but that's fine.

They should kick UND out of the NCAA for all sports for this incident.(sc) Let's just go completely overboard.

It's not like he had an intent to injure the gopher players. If he would of had an intent to injure he would of used his stick and hit the guy in a vulnerable spot where he has no padding or way to protect himself. Kinda like the gopher player coming off the bench did to him. That could be an intent to injure. Knocking someone down in the handshake line and tackling another player is not an intent to injure and is not serious enough to ban a player forever.

Can't recall this ever happening before. Anyone?
Do some research or at least look back to earlier this year in the NFL when the Schwartz went chasing after Harbaugh. Look back a couple years to an incident between these same teams.
In my hockey career I remember this happening with my teams at least 3 times. Not as uncommon as you would think. But I'm sure the only time you ever talk about hockey is when something comes up that you can talk trash about.

Never play another game? Really Bob Blitz? C'mon man, are you kidding me? I agree with the coach/U's decision to rescind his assistant captaincy, as this made huge headlines and make the school look "bad" but never play a game? LOL. Yes, it was stupid, and yes it was unsportsmanlike, but how do you call that a "sucker punch" when he shoved the guy in line, and how do you call that a "fight" ... Looked more like a wrestling tackle to me, and zero punches were thrown. While I'm not defending his actions, I'd like to know who the little rat was that came off the Minny bench (wearing an 'A' no less) and sloo-footed Blood at the end of the game, while he was in a confrontation already. That Gophers player went on to hide behind 3-5 of his teammates too, if you watch the video closely. That's the definition of a "little bit*h" on the ice. You Americans that watch and are involved in College hockey have zero idea what a fight is, compared to Junior hockey. Not saying the college boys aren't tough - they are - but they are all wearing full cages and have strict rules against fighting. As soon as their helmet comes off, most of them are scared sh*tless because they don't know what to do, haha. This was a tackle, no where near a fight.

Again, not commending Blood's actions - it was stupid. But it is a highly charged emotional game these men are playing, and adding to the 6-2 loss, some rat bast*rd comes off the bench and sloo-foots him... I'd be pissed too. Just seems he didn't go after the right player - looks like it was #2-something, not #7 that did that to him.

I have no problem with him playing again, but Blood is a wuss.

  12. Attacking another player AFTER THE GAME IS OVER is not "Hockey" morons. Speaking of "doing your research" did ya notice he went after the wrong player? Low IQ goons.

Go watch some more NASCAR, "Duh" .... Seems to be a pretty straight forward "sport" ... Go around an oval a bunch of times. Yippee.

And yes, you're 100% correct on both counts:
    - ALL hockey players are goons
    - ALL hockey players are stupid and have low IQ's

    Grow up, you're pathetic, haha.
