The fourth annual Mikey Strong Charity Hockey Game to benefit spinal cord research and quality of life initiatives will take place on March 2, 2018 at the Prudential Center in Newark.
The event featuring NHL alumni is named for Mikey Nichols, who suffered a C-5 fracture during a game for Monroe High School (N.J.) in January 2014. Proceeds from the benefit will go to the Nichols Family Trust to provide for Nichols’ medical needs, as well as the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, which is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for individuals living with paralysis. The presenting sponsor, M&M’s, is also returning for a second year to help raise awareness for Nichols and his work to elevate the needs of the paralysis community.
WFAN, the New Jersey Devils, and the Prudential Center are teaming up to host the event.
General Admission tickets cost $23 in honor of Nichols’ jersey number and are on-sale now with corporate sponsorship packages also available. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the game starts at 7:30 p.m. All attendees will receive a ticket voucher from the Devils and the first 5,000 attendees to arrive on game day will receive a voucher from the New York Yankees for two complimentary tickets to select games during the 2018 season.
In 2015, the inaugural charity game raised over $57,000 and the 2016 game raised over $60,000 to benefit the Nichols Family Trust and the Reeve Foundation. When the Prudential Center offered a new home for the all-star game, the goal was to increase ticket sales. In 2017, the event raised over $100,000.
