45-yr-old woman walking dog killed by 8ft alligator in Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island, SC -- 45-yr-old Cassandra Cline was walking her dog this morning when she was killed by an eight foot alligator in Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island.

A forensic autopsy has been scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolina to determine her cause of death according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. An alligator believed responsible for the attack was located and dispatched at the scene. Questions regarding the disposition of the alligator should referred to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

“It appears the alligator went after her dog and she tried to protect it,” said Sam Chappalear of South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The dog was reportedly 'OK' after the attack.

If confirmed - it will be the first death by alligator on HHI in decades.
