For five weeks, a German shepherd affectionately dubbed 'Freeway Frida' so named because she eluded authorities in Galt, California as she wandered dangerously close to a local highway has been rescued, reports the Sacramento Bee.
Motorists had reported seeing the dog running along the median of Highway 99 and other areas beginning on April 10. The trouble was as soon as police arrived to rescue the pooch, she had already disappeared. That is until Saturday ... when the Galt police received a call that Freeway Frida had been spotted on Highway 99. And with the help of the California Highway Patrol, who stopped traffic on the busy road, Officer Sylvia Coelho was able to intercept the pooch and safely transfer her to the VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital where the dog she was diagnosed with malnutrition, dehydration and a broken leg.
The broken leg seems to have been an old injury, but it is unknown how she survived, except to say what a spunky gal this dog must be! Officer Coelho visited Freeway Frida on Monday and reported the pooch seems to be doing well. Sadly, the dog had no collar or microchip.
