Michael Kay's sad sad sad 'gloating' over a 6th place finish that saw him beat Mike Francesa in June 5.2 to 5.1? Had WFAN staff congratulating him.
“You wouldn’t believe the amount of people that were overjoyed. Some people from his station texted me and were congratulating me,” Kay told The Post.
“I take tremendous satisfaction. It was one month and he beat us in the book, but it’s as close as it’s ever been. If you remember, this is a guy who said, ‘They will never get close to me as long as I am here. Ever.’ He called us a pea-shooter and stuff like that, so I take tremendous satisfaction, and I also take satisfaction in knowing the listening public knows what’s good.”
He never called them a pea shooter.
And then Kay hedged going forward.
“I am sure he’s going to get a bump as he goes on his farewell tour and God bless him,” Kay said. “I would like him to stay because it would give me great satisfaction to try and run him down. We’ll try and do it over the last three months, but I am sure he’ll get a bump because of the good-bye tour.”
“I’ll miss the competition. We are, I wouldn’t say enemies, but we are certainly not friends,” Kay said. “I am not a fan of the way he talks down to people who compete against him. That’s not the way I was brought up to be. He’s a measuring stick, an iconic figure in the business and the lead guy for a long time. It’d be fun to catch him. When they bring in somebody else, you still want to beat them, but it’d be a lot more satisfying to beat him.”
“This show just evolved,” Kay said. “The three of us really like each other a lot and we have a lot of fun off the air. And management said, ‘Do the show how you want.’ They never put any constraints on us, so we started joking around. I always envisioned the show to be a sports Howard Stern show. I think Stern is a broadcasting genius, the way he can just be himself on the air, and I think we’ve got a little bit of that.”
He thinks they have a bit of Howard Stern thing going?
Michael Kay is delusional.
Hard to beat a halfwit who takes his show on the road on days the team he's visiting isn't there.
