They are doing the same exact thing with Covid-19. ANY report of an increase in reported cases will be written or spoken as 'SPIKED.' Coronavirus cases increased will always be Coronavirus cases spiked.
When a state opens and is doing 50% MORE testing than they had been doing previously they would have an increase in reported cases even if they had still been under the lockdown.
How about when cases increase due to much more testing but the number of positives are lower? i.e., 100 tests and 5 positives one day becomes 300 tests and 7 positives the next? Coronavirus cases spiked.
How about when those 5 positives would have resulted in 3 hospitalizations and 2 deaths 2 months ago but those 7 positives result in one hospitalization and no deaths today? Coronavirus cases spiked.
And the biggest problem with that fake news is if cases did actually 'spike' and hospitalizations did actually spike and deaths did actually spike due to some unforeseen change...75% of the population wouldn't know there's been a change.

Pay attention to the emotionally charged headlines your newspaper, CNN, and MSNBC use to lie. And then read the statistics.
