Bid on a 30 minute batting lesson with David Wright and help Mets media relations director Shannon Forde battle breast cancer

41-year- old St. John's grad Shannon (Dalton) Forde is Senior Director, Media Relations for the New York Mets. Shannon was diagnosed on August 2, 2012 with stage IV breast cancer. She has begun treatment and her friends and family are working so that she need not worry about the financial impacts of her diagnosis and treatments.

The first thing they did was organize a fundraiser at the Westmount Country Club on November 1, 2012 to make sure Shannon can concentrate on getting better. The Hope Shines for Shannon dinner is going to be hosted by Ron Darling and...the $100 tickets have sold out.

The second event, a Meet & Greet with Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, John Franco, Bobby Ojeda, Edgardo Alfonzo, Al Leiter, Ed Charles, Ed Kranepool, Willie Randolph, Ron Blomberg, Matt Harvey, Daniel Murphy & Joe McEwing -- has also sold out. (At $250 bucks a pop!)

So, what's left? Well, one can make a donation directly to the family to help pay medical & household expenses. Checks should be made payable to the Daniel P. Ryan Foundation and can be mailed with gift donations to P.O. Box 3145, Point Pleasant, NJ 08742. [Please include Shannon Forde’s name in the memo portion of the check. The Daniel P. Ryan Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) organization, with 26-3907621 as the tax identification number. All donations will go directly to the “Hope Shines for Shannon” fund.]

Even cooler, however, is the Hope Shines for Shannon Online Auction. Here's a sample with current bids:

  • Mets Star David Wright Will Give You a 30 minute Hitting Lesson at Citi Field ($10k)
  • You and a Guest Will Sit In on a Taping of The Wrap Up Show of the Howard Stern Show ($5k)
  • You and 3 Friends will Meet Boomer and Carton with a Tour of WFAN Studios and Watch the Show from the Producer's Room ($1500)

You can have dinner with Keith Hernandez, work in the Yankees PR department, or, for the low low current bid of $650 bucks, you can shadow Michael Kay after having lunch with him and several other NY media members.

Cool enough. (Learn more at the Hope Shines for Shannon Online Auction.) Shannon lives in Bergen County (NJ) with her husband John and two young children, Nicholas (4) and Kendall (2).
