Is the George Harrison memorial tree dead?

Three years after Beatle George Harrison passed away, he was honored in Los Angeles with a memorial tree planted at the Griffith Observatory. The tree featured a plaque with a fond remembrance from Harrison as well as the following quote from the Beatle: “For the forest to be green, each tree must be green.”

Well, the tree is dead. Of a beetle infestation. According to the L.A. Times, Councilman Tom LaBonge explained the tree will have to be replanted because of the insect infestation. The tree grew to over ten feet tall, but apparently “the tree beetle onslaught was too much for the tree."

Tree is dead.
