Rutgers Player LeGrand Paralyzed [Video]

Rutgers junior Eric LeGrand had surgery Saturday night after breaking his neck while making this tackle on a kickoff against Army and is paralyzed below the neck. LeGrand fractured his C3 and C4 vertebrae.

Rutgers officials said, "Eric is resting in the intensive care unit at Hackensack University Medical Center and will remain there for the near future. Currently, he has no movement below the neck."

The LeGrand family said in the statement: "We want to say thank you to everyone for all of your prayers, kind words, and well wishes. We appreciate every single thought. Eric is in good spirits and we are praying for a full recovery."

"Eric's spirits were as good as you could expect and he was cognizant of me being there and his mom and everybody," coach Greg Schiano said. "I saw him before surgery and after surgery, and he's a fighter."

The play occurred with 5 minutes to go in Rutgers 23-20 OT win at the New Meadowlands.
