Don Mattingly: I Faked it with Wade Boggs, Told Jeter to Fake it with Arod

ESPN New York's Ian O'Connor has written a book, The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter, about NY Yankee Derek Jeter. (Book is out May 16) The NY Post's Susannah Cahlan's take on the book? It's about Jeter and Alex Rodriguez' broken bromance and their cold relationship after breaking up:

"If you do something to hurt [Jeter], that's it, you're done," Mike Borzello, a bullpen catcher close with Jeter, told the author. "You had your chance."

Jeter got a measure of revenge at the 2001 All-Star Game, when a smitten Rodriguez introduced him to Latin songstress Joy Enriquez. Jeter wasted no time...the singer and the shortstop began dating.

Enriquez went on to have a baby that she named Heavenly. Some conquest.

Fine. But we think Subway Squawkers' Lisa Swan's take on Ian O'Connor is a bit less dramatic and a bit more interesting:

ESPN New York's Ian O'Connor has written yet another column lauding the merits of Derek Jeter, without bothering to mention that he has written an upcoming book on the Yankee captain with the cooperation of Jeter and his friends and family. That makes at least a half-dozen times since the fall that O'Connor has written such a pro-Jeter column without even a cursory disclaimer about the book.

Enjoy the Houghton Mifflin money Ian. ESPNers love outside work. But know this - you are being watched.
