Ocean Bank Employees Reel in 1006lb Mako Shark, Help Reduce Shark Population [Video]

"I don't have to watch 'Jaws' anymore, I lived it," said Ocean Bank's Senior Vice President and Head of International Banking, Oscar Fernandez after he and some FIU alumni reeled in a 1006 pound Mako Shark 16 miles off Elliot Key. It took more than 4 hours to pull the shark, which possesses the largest set of teeth of any shark, into their boat, the Woundup.

In the North Atlantic, stocks of the shortfin mako have declined 40% or more since the late 1980s, and there are concerns that populations of the longfin mako are following the same trend. This will help.

And, just 300 miles north, surfers were playing jump the shark.
