"It was a special day that was ruined," Iraqi vet and Woodbridge Policeman Neal Auricchio told NBC's Roseanne Colletti last night. They grabbed my friend's hat, threw a cigarette in it, threw one at me -- striking me in the mouth. I said, 'Relax, it's just a game' Then I was overwhelmed by a mob, 2 or 3 guys started punching me, kicking me. I get back to my feed and get a blind side punch that knocks me unconscious."
As first reported on Bob's Blitz, Auricchio, a Sergeant in the Marines who was awarded a Purple Heart, is scheduled for surgery to repair the fractured bone under his left eye.
In a related story, Denis Veteri, father of 3 with a long history of drug and fighting charges who had been free on 10% of $100,000 bail, had his bail increased to $400,000. The 32-year-old was back in jail briefly Wednesday. Three and half hours later he was able to post 10 percent of the bail and was free again.
