Suspect Arrested in Assault of Rangers Fan has Previous Felony, Battery, Drug Charges on Record

32-year-old Dennis M. Veteri of Glassboro, N.J., was arrested after turning himself in to officer James P. Powell as a suspect in the beating of military hero and Woodbridge Policeman Neal Auricchio following the NHL's Winter Classic in Philadelphia. Veteri, charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, was released after posting 10 percent of $50,000 bail, according to court records obtained by the Blitz.

Court records apparently show he has been sentenced to probation for aggravated assault and drugs possession in Philadelphia in the past. He also has a 2004 arrest in Broward County for heroin possession and a 2001 misdemeanor arrest out of Fort Lauderdale for battery. He apparently followed all that up with a violation of his probation for the felony offense in June of 2006.

Applause to Crossing Broad and Philadelphia Police for all their work in making this arrest possible.

Preliminary hearing is set for Jan 31. Purple Heart winner Auricchio is awaiting surgery.
