NBC Wants MLB TV Rights, Could top $1B: Source

Major League Baseball's current $711 million dollar TV broadcast agreement with FOX, Turner, and ESPN expires next year. A new deal, expected to top one billion dollars, could send the bid happy execs at NBC (and the fledgling NBC Sports Network) into a spending frenzy. "I've never seen anything like this," a source told the NY Post.

NBC has a recent track record as high bidder for sports rights — it paid $4.38 billion to broadcast the next four Olympics and $1.9 billion for 10 more years of the NHL.

The network would like to pair up its hugely popular “Sunday Night Football” series with baseball, according to insiders.

And you thought no one cared about baseball.
