Mike Francesa Cites Jon Rothstein, snubs Boomer & Carton on alleged Eric Murdock strong arming of RU

Mike Francesa discussed the Mike Rice firing, refusing to say "Boomer & Carton" when it came to allegatons that Eric Murdock tried to extort $1MM from Rutgers. Instead going with, "it was reported on the station this morning...second by Jon Rothstein."

Rothstein had appeared later yesterday AM on the Joe & Evan show.

“Craig [Carton] definitely backed off before he got off the air.” said WFAN boss Mark Chernoff. “He heard a strong rumor, but that’s all it was. We can discuss rumors (in the talk radio business), we can have opinions on them, but Craig wasn’t reporting this as a fact. We’ve heard a lot of things, but until someone comes on the record, it’s not news to us.”

Carton's response on the 'backed off' line? "No I didn't."



The NYDN reported, "During the update after Rothstein’s appearance, Jerry Recco reported what Rothstein said about Murdock. After hearing that, Chernoff told his staff not to continue reporting it in future updates.

“Again, as far as I was concerned it was a rumor, it wasn’t a news story,” he [Chernoff] said.
