Mike Francesa at FrancesaCon |
Q: How was the Francesacon experience?
A: It was probably the most remarkable single event that I ever attended, really. I’ve never seen anything like it, a response like it. I’ve never been in a place where people so uniformly were having a good time. I was stunned by the response and amazed by how positive, upbeat people were. I was appreciative, it’s something that anybody would like to have happen to them. I had a lot of fun with it. When you step back and think about it, it was an amazing event, it really was.
Q: How did your relationship with your Internet following (Mongo Nation) evolve?
A: It’s just something that organically started to grow. And it started to manifest itself in very positive ways in a lot of different places — in the way they responded and in such large numbers. It started to grow and there was no way to ignore its existence. My producers monitor it and they are very much a part of it themselves. … It’s something that’s taken on a life of its own. It’s not something that I cultivated, it’s just something that’s turned into a very positive force and it’s something that’s become very substantial.
Q: You said at Francesacon that you’d bring “Mad Dog” Chris Russo next year. Think he’d be interested?
A: I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to him about it. It was kind of off-the-cuff when I said it. We’ll have to wait and see. We’ll cross paths at some point and we’ll talk about it. If it’s something that somebody would really want to see, and I got the reaction that some of them would, we’ll see how it works out.
Francesa went on to speak on DeflateGate & the new NY Jets regime.
