So we expect both to call out NY Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist was supposed to practice with his Rangers teammates Friday for the first time since injuring a blood vessel in the back of his neck six weeks ago, but instead the franchise netminder was away from the rink, with his wife as she went into labor with the couple’s second child.
It’s unclear how exactly this will affect the timeline for his return. Both Lundqvist and his coach, Alain Vigneault, have been looking for some good full-team practice time before he returns to game action.
“Until I see him and talk to him and know how he feels,” Vigneault said, “I don’t have a time frame for you.”
It’s clear Lundqvist, 33, will not be with the team for Saturday night’s game in Raleigh, NC, nor will he play at home Sunday against the Ducks. Both starts are expected to go to Cam Talbot.
The first time Lundqvist will be able to be on the ice with the team will be Tuesday’s morning skate before a Garden match against the defending Stanley Cup champion Kings, with the first actual practice being Wednesday up in Westchester.
Interesting. Asked how long Rick Nash's paternity leave would be back in October, Vigneault replied, “Very short. 'Hi, I have to go to practice.’"
