Boomer Esiason's reply? "Yep. Always is."
Before Esiason went on to talk about quarterbacks Jim McMahon & Joe Namath being able to drink like crazy and still play.
2 hours later Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot tweeted, "#Browns Pettine wouldn't say yet if the organization will require Manziel to get more help. He spent 10 weeks in rehab in offseason."
Inside the NFL's Brandon Marshall commented, “Recovery, addiction and mental illness is serious. So we don’t know his diagnosis. But the guy, he went to rehab. So if he is an alcoholic, and this came up, it’s a problem.”
Boomer's response? “He’s 24 years old. Is he supposed to spend Friday night at church? I think we’re all overreacting right now. That’s how I feel about it. Let him play.”
Ridiculous. If he's an alcoholic, and he very well may be, how bad is that quote outta Boomer?
So Brandon put him in his place. “We’re talking about addiction though, Marshall continues. “If he’s an alcoholic, and he’s doing this, this is problematic This is a big issue. When he was sober, he was definitely a better teammate, and a better player. So that’s the player the ownership wants.”
Hey, anything to make Inside the NFL relevant again, right?
And guess what? There was a cover up to boot. Manziel lied to the team about when the video showing him partying was taken, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported Thursday. Told 'friends' to say the tape was old.
Well done Boomer and Carton.
Browns head coach Mike Pettine demoted Manziel to third-string this week.
