Mets fans who do not like Craig Carton are not going to like this: Multiple sources claim that NY Mets pitcher Johan Santana could have been driven to throw his 134 pitch no hitter on Friday night after hearing WFAN's Carton say that he was 'not a max effort guy who gets the NY fan base' to co-host Boomer Esiason on their radio program that morning.
While discussing "maxium effort, gets the New York fan" players on local teams, Esiason followed up Carton's selection of NY Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher by asking, "Johan Santana?" Carton responded, "Not that guy."
Multiple emails to the NY Mets and WFAN have not yet been returned. However, one source indicated that the team was so confident that the event could happen that night that they had a cake ready. And as for Carton? He wasn't modest about taking credit:
