Several references indicate that Carton (Phillies, 1992-1994, #74), at some point in limited playing time, turned an unassisted triple play. Conflicting reports imply that his battle with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) led him to do so. The 2 most popular reasons given for the love of #77 are A) Carton evaded a rapist while at Syracuse University by dialing #77 on his cell phone and B) It is a sign of deference to his hero, former hockey great Eric Lindros, who wore #88.
