Fired, Retired Penn State Assistants Could Get $5 Million in Severance

STATE COLLEGE, PA -- Penn State's new head coach Bill O'Brien is going to bring in many of his own staff. That means many of the old staff are out. And that means the University could be out as much as $5,000,0000 in severance payouts.

Acting Athletic Director David Joyner said Friday the status of the assistant coaches who aren't coming back from former coach Joe Paterno's staff hasn't been finalized. Some may choose to retire, others could seek different jobs at Penn State or move on.
