Michael Kay Show Could be in for Changes Following Lukewarm FM Debut for WEPN: Sources

WFAN battled ESPN's WEPN radio in May for the first time with the wwl's NY flagship radio station broadcasting on 98.7 FM. And now there's chatter of a potential shakeup brewing.

WEPN had a 1.1 rating and a cume of 884,200 in April. ESPN was only able to increase to a 1.8 rating in May, with a cume of 1,382,100 -- falling short of expectations and actually pulling the 98.7 dial down as 98.7 WRKS KISS ended its urban run with 4.0 rating, 1,970,300 cume.

WFAN's 3.1 April rating, 1,576,400 cume increased to a 3.2 May rating with a cume of 1,605,100.

During the period that WFAN squared off with WEPN on FM, the Boomer & Carton show remained #1 with the target demo of men 25-54. (Interestingly enough the Joe & Evan show reportedly dropped in that key area from #4 in February to #5 while Mike Francesa fell as well...from #3 to fourth in his slot. So one can see who is doing the heavy lifting.)

Multiple sources close to the situation at ESPN incidate that there has been strong rumor floating in the Disney owned company that The Michael Kay Show could be gone by early next year.
