The NBA Didn't Want the Nets in Black Because Black Ballplayers Don't Look Good on TV

So Jay-Z owns like nothing of the Brooklyn Nets yet he's keeping Bon Jovi down and he's the one who made an appeal to the NBA in order to get those shiny new black uniforms approved, according the the NYT. And why didn't the NBA want another dark uniform?

He [Jay-Z] helped design the team logos and choose the team’s stark black-and-white color scheme, and personally appealed to National Basketball Association officials to drop their objections to it (the N.B.A., according to a person with knowledge of the discussion, thought that African-American athletes did not look good on TV in black, an assertion that a league spokesman adamantly denied).

Come on now, David Robinson always looked quite sexy on the big screen, no? And can you picture the Brooklynettes in anything besides black?
