So you bought a Duraflame electric fireplace from QVC and you don't like the sparkly light in back

So, you're one of the hundreds of thousands (yes, really) of consumers who bought a Duraflame 750W / 1500W Electric Stove Heater with Remote Control from QVC this year. For the price, you're pretty happy and the stove is 10x better than similarly priced units at Home Depot.

But...you don't like the sparkly light that is shining out of the vent in the back, right? Here's what we did in the office:

A) We purchased some Scotch Aluminum Foil Tape

B) We cut enough Scotch Aluminum Foil Tape to go across the bottom of the vent in the back of the unit

C) We shaped the tape in a funnel like fashion and then taped it directly below the vent (not over the vent at all).

Note -- the vent is not closed off at all. The light is simply blocked while the flow is not at all stopped. This second view below will show what it looks like from the top of the unit.

Result? A 90% reduction in that annoying light. What Duraflame needs to do is angle the vents upward in future models. That and sealing the perimeter (which we did not and would not touch) would help immensely. Some QVC comments have also advised moving the unit as close as one can to the wall behind it. That knocked out another 5%.

(Note: We are not electricians and the above is for entertainment purposes only. Get a plumber or electrician to make any changes to the heater. We also unplug the unit when we leave the office and never run it unless one of us is in the same room.)
