Lost Tape Syndrome hits NFL
In 2001, shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, global affairs expert Mike Francesa blamed the entire thing on Israel, adding that American Jews are disloyal — they would fight for Israel before the U.S. A more bigoted, ignorant spew against Jews likely had not been heard on U.S. commercial radio since Father Coughlin’s Nazified rants in the 1930s.
Of course, “Let’s Be Honest” Francesa — whose daily struggles with the truth are, well, hourly — denied he said such things, and to prove it WFAN “lost” the tape. Years later, he claimed that the Anti-Defamation League investigated the accusation and “cleared” him — another lie. The ADL did no such thing. Its request to listen to the “lost” tape was turned down.
But Francesa is so afflicted by his colossal gall that Thursday, on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, he said he suspected the NFL, as per the Ray Rice scandal, of a cover up — of subjugating a tape!
Incidentally, Francesa went 0-3 in his Week 1 NFL picks. We note this because only if he had gone 3-0 or 2-1 would he be eager to let everyone know.
In 2009, we contacted the ADL. They had the same response. (And if you have the tape, recorded off the AM radio in your car at the time...our contact info is below.)
